NCPA Compounding Competition
NCPA Compounding Competition
Presbyterian College School of Pharmacy (PCSP) hosted the local compounding competition. Designed after the national competition, groups of three competed to compound a classic component. Each group competed to compound three prescriptions from raw materials, write down proper
compounding procedures, ensure appropriate labeling, assign appropriate beyond use dates, and make a recommendation on quality control.
In addition, there was a written component in which students had to perform pharmaceutical calculations and answer
questions about general information regarding the compounding of both sterile and non-sterile preparations. Each group also participated in a formal debate on current pharmaceutical topics.
The excellent panel of judges was lead by Dr. Addison Livingston. Dr. Livingston is a compounding pharmacist and part owner of Hawthorne Pharmacy located in Columbia, SC. Congratulations to the winning team, Rebecca Conley, Ro-Derick Middleton, and Dylan Porter, selected by the judges to represent Presbyterian College at the National Competition this spring (March 21st and 22nd) at the University of Florida.
