Dr. Gene Reeder Awarded the Bowl of Hygeia

Dr. Gene Reeder of the Presbyterian College School of Pharmacy (PCSP) has been awarded the Bowl of Hygeia Award by the South Carolina Pharmacy Association (SCPhA). Established in 1958, the Bowl of Hygeia Award recognizes one pharmacist each year from participating states for his or her record of outstanding civic leadership and his or her work to encourage fellow pharmacists to take active roles in their communities. Dr. Reeder is the 2014 recipient for the state of South Carolina.

A graduate of University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy and Darla Moore School of Business, Dr. Reeder has served as a consultant to the pharmaceutical industry, government agencies and various health plans, as well as working as a full time professor. He has worked as a community pharmacist, nursing home consultant and has held active pharmacist licensure in South Carolina since 1973. Dr. Reeder is a past President of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Research and Science of the American Pharmacists Association, as well as the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy. He is also a Fellow of both associations.

“I am truly honored, humbled and grateful to receive the 2014 Bowl of Hygeia Award. While the Award is given to an individual pharmacist, it really belongs to all the people who mentored that person and helped shape his life
and professional career” said Dr. Reeder. “I owe many thanks to my parents, teachers, pharmacy colleagues, students and my wife Nancy for all they have contributed to my life and this award.”

During his time at PCSP, Dr. Reeder has worked to develop the pharmacy management curriculum and entrepreneurship
initiatives. “This is one of the highest awards that someone in our field can receive,” said PCSP Dean Dr. Cliff Fuhrman. “We are truly honored to have Dr. Reeder as part of the PCSP family. He brings invaluable knowledge and experience to the classroom for our students. We are so very proud of his latest accomplishment.”
