APhA Operation Diabetes

APhA-Diabetes-Screening-PCSP

The School of Pharmacy’s American Pharmacist Association (APhA) Operation Diabetes  hosted a blood glucose risk assessment and provided testing for people who may have a concern with their blood sugar levels at Sadler Hughes Apothecary on Jan 31, 2017. Diabetes is a condition that results in elevated glucose levels in the blood and if not treated can lead to a host of health problems. Diabetes can be symptom-less therefor it is not always obvious if you have it or not. Early detection allows someone the opportunity to prevent pre-diabetes  from turning into type 2 diabetes. “Our hope is that by doing the risk assessments and blood sugar testing we can  help those who may not have known otherwise that they were at risk for diabetes,” says Erica Whitfield, Pharm D, Class of 2020.
