Scott Asbill, Rebecca Bickley, Giuseppe Gumina, Amy Messersmith, Nancy Taylor, Tiffaney Threatt and Eileen Ward, and P3 student Becca Foster offered a week-long full exposure to the many different facets of pharmacy.\u00a0 The class, composed of 16 bright 9th and 10th graders from across the state of South Carolina, learned about compounding, community and clinical pharmacy, as well as chemistry, physics, biology and pharmacogenomics of drugs.\u00a0 Hands-on experiences included compounding a medicated cream and a simple syrup, surveying nutrition, exercise and electronic use habits, using an asthma inhaler, reading a medical chart, preparing an IV bag, building a polarimeter and a calorimeter, and extracting DNA from fruit.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/pcsp-ppp-4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-7605\" alt=\"pcsp-ppp-4\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/pcsp-ppp-4-1024x670.jpg\" width=\"611\" height=\"399\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/pcsp-ppp-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-7606\" alt=\"pcsp-ppp-3\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/pcsp-ppp-3.jpg\" width=\"296\" height=\"228\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/pcsp-ppp-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-7607\" alt=\"pcsp-ppp-2\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/pcsp-ppp-2.jpg\" width=\"297\" height=\"223\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/pcsp-ppp-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-7608\" alt=\"pcsp-ppp-1\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/pcsp-ppp-1.jpg\" width=\"297\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;Pharmacy:\u00a0 Patients, Pills, and Potions\u201d at the SC Governor\u2019s School PCSP was well represented at the 2015 GoSciTech, the SC Governor\u2019s School for Science and Mathematics\u2019 annual residential summer science camp in Hartsville, SC.\u00a0 Drs.
