{"id":9291,"date":"2013-05-02T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2013-05-02T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/develop.presby.edu\/about\/2016\/03\/16\/pcsp-awards-presentation-day-2013\/"},"modified":"2018-10-31T15:38:33","modified_gmt":"2018-10-31T19:38:33","slug":"pcsp-awards-presentation-day-2013","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pharmacy.presby.edu\/about\/2013\/05\/02\/pcsp-awards-presentation-day-2013\/","title":{"rendered":"PCSP Awards Presentation Day 2013"},"content":{"rendered":"<address style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/dr-chris-farrell-pcsp.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4357\" title=\"dr-chris-farrell-pcsp\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/dr-chris-farrell-pcsp.jpg\" alt=\"Dr Chris Farrell at PCSP\" width=\"665\" height=\"350\" \/><\/a>Dr. Chris Farrell was named PCSP\u00a0 Professor of the Year for 2013<\/address>\n<p>The Presbyterian College School of Pharmacy recognized achievements in academics, service, and leadership during its third annual awards ceremony in Belk Auditorium on April 30, 2013.<\/p>\n<p>During the event Dr. Chris Farrell, Assistant Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the School of Pharmacy, was named the 2013 School of Pharmacy Professor of the Year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s great to see how faculty gets involved with the students and how they help, even after hours, to prepare them so that they are well-rounded,\u201d Farrell said when accepting the award. \u201cI\u2019d like to thank the students for making it so exciting in the classroom. I really enjoy seeing the excitement of students. It\u2019s great to hear that excitement, and I hope they carry that with them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Teacher of the Year Award<\/strong> is given to an outstanding teacher on the faculty of the Presbyterian College School of Pharmacy each year. Students are invited to nominate a deserving faculty member each spring and nominees are selected for consideration based upon the following criteria:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Concern for student learning<\/li>\n<li>General knowledge base<\/li>\n<li>Encouragement of student participation in the learning process<\/li>\n<li>Ability to stimulate learning<\/li>\n<li>Informative to students<\/li>\n<li>Pedagogical organization<\/li>\n<li>Communication skills<\/li>\n<li>Correlation between lectures and exam<\/li>\n<li>Fairness in the classroom<\/li>\n<li>Respect for students<\/li>\n<li>Ability to discuss matters outside of class<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The winner of the Teacher of the Year Award receives a plague and paid travel expenses to this year\u2019s American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy meeting in Chicago to be recognized at a luncheon for Teachers of the Year from across the country.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Farrell was described by students with the following comments:<\/p>\n<p><em> \u201cShows great compassion for the material being taught.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em> \u201cAwesome at explaining anything that needs to be clarified.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em> \u201cPassionate about teaching and encourages students to ask questions!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em> \u201cAlways positive and tests are fair.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em> \u201cWhat sets this teacher apart from others is that they make learning fun and interesting.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em> \u201cReally cares about the students here at PC and wants them to succeed.\u00a0 The door is always open if anyone has any questions or just wants to come by and say hello.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em> \u201cEncourages student participation in the learning process.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em> \u201cI will be able to use what this professor has taught me as a foundation for future learning.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">\u2026<\/span><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Gloria-king-pcps.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4358 aligncenter\" title=\"Gloria-king-pcps\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Gloria-king-pcps.jpg\" alt=\"Gloria King at PCSP\" width=\"327\" height=\"212\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Student Advocate Award <\/strong>was created to honor a staff member of the Presbyterian College School of Pharmacy who has gone above and beyond \u201cthe call of duty\u201d in his or her job responsibilities. Staff are nominated by students during the spring semester and nominees are selected based upon the following criteria:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>exhibiting concern for and respect to students<\/li>\n<li>providing assistance or information to students in a manner that is above and beyond the \u201ccall of duty\u201d<\/li>\n<li>demonstrating high quality interactions with individual students and\/or student groups<\/li>\n<li>in some other way, positively impacting students\u2019 experience at the PC School of Pharmacy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The 2012-2013 Student Advocate Award winner was described by students with the following comments:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cGoes out of her way to help students be successful, meet deadlines, and be organized.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em> \u201cI remember the first time I called PCSP to ask a question; she sounded so nice and was so helpful that it made me really interested in coming to PCSP!!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWhat sets this nominee apart from others is that she pretty much knows all of the pharmacy students by name.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em> \u201cShe has made the transition from being close to home to 2 hours away easier. She has made herself always available when we need help with anything or just to talk and that has meant a lot to me.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em> \u201cExtremely helpful! Always the first person I ask a question to if I\u2019m not sure who to ask.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em> \u201cWhenever I have doubts on whether or not I will succeed, she always provides kind words of encouragement.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s recipient of the Student Advocate Award is <strong>Ms. Gloria King, <\/strong>Student Affairs Coordinator.<\/p>\n<p><span src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/jean-whyte-pcsp.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"210\" height=\"136\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kimberly McDowell<\/strong> won the <strong>Outstanding Student Service<\/strong> award while <strong>Morgan Fleming<\/strong> was named the <strong>Outstanding Student Leadership<\/strong> award winner. <strong>Jean Whyte<\/strong> won the <strong>Outstanding Student Professionalism<\/strong> award.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><em>\u2026<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The <strong>Class Presidents and Liaisons<\/strong> provided leadership this past year by representing their classmates on the Faculty-Student Liaison Committee and the Dean\u2019s Council.\u00a0 In appreciation of their leadership and service to the School and their classmates, we are proud to present each Class Liaison with a Presbyterian College School of Pharmacy mortar and pestle and each Class President with a plaque commemorating their year as class president.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Ryan Griesbaum<\/strong>, Class President, and <strong>Fairlynn Grooms<\/strong>, Class Liaison, for their service to the Class of 2014.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Pat O\u2019Day<\/strong>, Class President, and <strong>Lyndsay Priester<\/strong>, Class Liaison, for their service to the Class of 2014.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Josh Johnson<\/strong>, Class President, and <strong>Paige Ross<\/strong>, Class Liaison, for their service to the Class of 2014.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><em>\u2026<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><em>\u2026<\/em><\/span><br \/>\n<a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/soccer.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4363\" title=\"PCSP Pharmica FC Soccer Team\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/soccer.jpg\" alt=\"PCSP Pharmica FC Soccer Team\" width=\"327\" height=\"212\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>PCSP participated in intramural soccer by creating a team called the<strong> Pharmica FC<\/strong> and our team was undefeated this past year winning first place in intramural soccer.\u00a0 This year\u2019s championship team consisted of <strong>Alejandro Botero<\/strong> (Team Captain), <strong>Jay Patel, Patrick An, John Broccio, Jay Dailey, Dylan Furtick, Fellow Ibrahim, Dillon Moyer, David Ouelett, Frank Owusu, Jimmy Pappas, Atit Patel, Roshan Patel, Alan Rusnak, <\/strong>and <strong>Dr. Alfonso Romero-Sandoval. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><em>\u2026<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><em>\u2026<\/em><\/span><br \/>\nThe <strong>Dean\u2019s List<\/strong> recognizes the students who achieved a GPA of at least at 3.50 during the spring 2012 or fall 2012 semesters, earning Williams, Spring 2012, Fall 2012<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><em>\u2026<\/em><\/span><br \/>\nPharmacy Student Ambassadors are a volunteer organization of students that serve as ambassadors in public relations with prospective students and their families, alumni, preceptors, and members of the community.\u00a0 The Director of Admissions selected a student ambassador who has gone above and beyond in serving this past year.\u00a0 The student selected was always willing to serve in a pinch and on more than one occasion when above and beyond the call of duty.\u00a0 In appreciation of his service to the School, we are proud to present <strong>Bartou Wilson<\/strong> with the <strong>Pharmacy Student Ambassadors Extra Mile Award<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><em>\u2026<\/em><\/span><br \/>\n<a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/sease.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4372\" title=\"Dr. Julie Sease PCSP\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/sease.jpg\" alt=\"Dr. Julie Sease PCSP\" width=\"327\" height=\"212\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Recruiting and admitting quality students here at Presbyterian College School of Pharmacy requires participation by a large number of people, including the Office of Professional Affairs, the Admissions Committee, faculty, staff, and students.\u00a0 We greatly appreciate everyone\u2019s efforts in presenting the School to external constituents, interacting with prospects, interviewing applicants, and connecting with incoming students.\u00a0 Each year, the Office of Professional and Student Affairs recognizes a faculty member who has gone above and beyond with an Exemplary Service to Admissions Faculty Award.\u00a0 The Director of Admissions selected a faculty member who exhibited dedicated service to admissions by attending admissions events, interviewing students, and interacting with prospects and incoming students.\u00a0 This past year, the faculty member selected interviewed 29 students, attended all 3 admissions open house events and the Early Entry Pre-Pharmacy luncheon, called and wrote notes to accepted students, participated in the Class of 2017 Meet and Greet, helped facilitate our summer Exploring Pharmacy Day Camps \u2013 and all this was on top of taking on a new administrative role!\u00a0 In appreciation for her continued and dedicated service, we are proud to present <strong>Dr. Julie Sease <\/strong>with the <strong>Exemplary Service to Admissions Faculty Award<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><em>\u2026<\/em><\/span><br \/>\nThe <strong>Preceptor of the Year Award<\/strong> seeks to recognize preceptors\u2019 commitment to excellence and outstanding contributions to the educational development of future pharmacists at Presbyterian College School of Pharmacy.\u00a0\u00a0 To be eligible for the award, a preceptor must have precepted a minimum of 6 students during the previous academic year AND must not have received the award within the last \ufb01ve years.
