Why Pharmacy…

Pharmacists are responsible for a wide range of duties, from dispensing medication to developing individualized patient care plans and exchanging information with patients and health care providers. At the end of the day, however, pharmacists hope they accomplish one overriding objective: to help their patients feel better.PCSP Students in Lab

There is much more to being a pharmacist than dispensing medication; that is only one small facet of the pharmacist’s role in patient care. Today’s pharmacist is considered “the medication expert” within the health care profession.

Pharmacists are the most trusted, accessible source of medications, unbiased information, and advice regarding the safe, appropriate, and cost-effective use of medications.

Pharmacists monitor patient health and medication compliance, and work with patients and other health care professionals to ensure the best possible care outcome.

Pharmacists have expert insight into how drugs are made and the potential interactions that can occur when patients take a number of medications to control one or more illnesses.

Pharmacy school consists of 4 years of coursework and pharmacy practice experiential education leading to the Doctor of Pharmacy degree. Admission to pharmacy school is competitive and students may apply after completing 2 – 3 years of required pre-pharmacy coursework.
