Pharmacy Research Summer Interns 2014

PCSP-PSRI-Summer-Interns

Pharmacy Research Summer Interns 2014

Presbyterian College School of Pharmacy (PCSP) welcomed 10 Pharmacy Research Summer Interns (PRSI) for the 2014 summer. These interns will spend 8 weeks participating in faculty mentored pharmacy and biomedical research projects. In addition to PCSP Pharmacy students and pre-pharmacy students from across South Carolina, this year international students joined the PRSI program.

PCSP welcomed its first international students: Laura Bernal, from Universidad de Alcala, Spain and Abigail Alvarado, from Universidad Autonoma de Tamaulipas, Mexico. Both Laura and Abigail are working at the laboratory of Dr. Romero-Sandoval in the study of macrophage phenotypes under inflammatory conditions.

In addition, we sent our first pharmacy student to study abroad for the summer. Dillon Moyer has traveled to the Universidad de Alcala, Spain. Dillon is working at the laboratory of Dr. Marta Saura in cardiovascular basic research. Dr. Romero-Sandoval stated, “The PRSI is the main \program the Office of Research utilizes to provide our students with high caliber research opportunities. This has also been a great recruitment tool for outstanding students from the region. The students are engaged in scientific projects guided by our talented faculty. In
addition, they attend workshops on how to read, write, search, and interpret scientific literature, which provides them with a solid background of theory and hands on real science. Our PRSI students also enjoy two community service activities during the program. This year we volunteered at The Hospice of Laurens County.”
