The PCSP Wellness Center Diabetes Education program, under the leadership of Drs. Sarah Wagner, Eileen Ward, Tiffaney Threatt, and Kayce Shealy, was named the 2013 Pharmacy Community of Interest (COI) for Best Practice in Diabetes Care. Our faculty members received the award at this annual meeting of the American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE13) in Philadelphia, PA, which took place from August 7-10, 2013.

More than 4,000 diabetes educators and other healthcare professionals gathered at the AADE13 Annual Meeting and Exhibition. This 40th AADE Annual Meeting was a successful educational event and an opportunity to exchange the latest information with diabetes educators from around the United States. AADE’s Annual Meeting & Exhibition attracts health professionals who share a passion for promoting diabetes self-management to their patients: how to accurately monitor blood glucose levels, engage in exercise, adopt healthy eating habits, and cope with specific diabetes emotional and physical challenges. Self-management education also includes helping patients select products that best manage their diabetes.

The faculty of PCSP Wellness Center are honored and thrilled to have received such a prestigious award for their efforts in diabetes education. This recognition means a great deal, given the numerous diabetes education programs available in the state and nation in which pharmacists are involved. While formal awards certainly justify what they do, the real value is measured by the success of our patients in improving their health. This award is a testament to the great deal of teamwork that makes Presbyterian College School of Pharmacy unique as well as highlights the tradition of service that runs in the blood of every Blue Hose.
