PCSP Students Learn About Addiction

Presbyterian College School of Pharmacy students and faculty attended the University of Utah School on Alcoholism and Other Drug Dependencies in Salt Lake City from June 15 – June 20, 2014. The school’s purpose is to educate both students and health professionals on addiction, including the pathophysiology, social implications and
treatment strategies. Many recovering addicts also attend the school to teach both students and professionals about addiction from the perspective of someone who has struggled with the disease. The participants also attended Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meetings. The experience was very rewarding for Dr. Eagerton, and students Emily Clamp, Nadia Jubran, Lindsey Connolly and Paige Street as they are now better able to understand addiction and to assist addicts with prevention and treatment strategies in our community. The group was also able to collaborate with other pharmacy students from around the country on Generation RX projects.
