PCSP Students Volunteered at the Self Regional Annual Diabetes Day Camp

PCSP Diabetes Day Camp

PC School of Pharmacy students recently volunteered during the Self Regional Annual Diabetes Day Camp at the YMCA in Greenwood, SC. The day camp is designed for children with Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes.

“This year was our second year with the PC PharmD candidates and faculty, and they all did a wonderful job. They were very active in both the clinical and helping the children with activities.  It’s a good match,” said Rebecca Wise, RN, CDE, Diabetes Education Program Coordinator at Self Regional.

During the camp, children participated in rope and rock climbing activities as well as other physical activities at the YMCA. They also learned best practices on how to manage their diabetes through educational games and instructions.

Camp activities also taught kids life-enriching information such as meal planning, insulin administration, blood glucose monitoring, medication maintenance, and other life skills associated with diabetes.
